Microsoft Word has been extremely helpful throughout my education in grades K-12 along with college level courses. During high school, MS Word helped me in times when studying for AP exams, grouping together resumes and applying to colleges. Microsoft Word makes it easy to download documents and annotate them efficiently. Without the ability to do this, my high school work would have been very unorganized. So far in college, MS Word has been beneficial to my work load by allowing me to highlight, underline and select different colors for fonts. I prefer using MS over google docs or pages mainly because I have a HP computer. Using pages sometimes gives me issues. Google docs and MS Word are both fairly similar but MS Word is simpler for me to download.
The ISTE Standards for Educators is a great guide for helping students grow in different aspects of learning. One of the standards, leader, speaks to me the most as when I was in elementary school, I had a mentor who guided me through the years and was a great role model for me. Once I was older, I became a mentor for a younger student. This gave me great leadership skills and forced me to get outside of my comfort zone. Being a leader is extremely important and is something that should be focused on more thoroughly. I learned that it is crucial for students development and growth.
Digital natives for todays youth definitely has an affect in the school system. Being a digital native means that you have had a deep understanding of technology since a young age. When going to school, I have noticed teachers having a more difficult time with technology compared to students. For example, I remember a time I had to help one of my teachers set up the projector. I think that it growing up in a time period of technology versus growing up without it has a huge effect on what we use on a daily basis. For example, I use my computer everyday while my mother doesn't even own a computer. In the future I can imagine there will be even further developed technology that I will be unfamiliar with. In this case, my students may need to assist me at times.
Your blog post emphasizes how important Microsoft Word is for organization and productivity, especially in high school and college. I agree that our choice of software often depends on the devices we use, making MS Word a more convenient option for some. Your experience with mentorship shows how leadership skills develop over time and why they’re so important. I also agree that as technology advances, the roles may reverse, and future students might help us just as we help teachers now!
